Historical Event on 1/4/1948
Burma achieved its independence from Great Britain. In 1989, Burma changed its name to Myanmar to reflect the multi-ethnic composition of the country. Apart from the Burmese, the main ethnic minority groups are the Karen, Shan, Mon, Chin, and Kachin. Just as the Burmese did against the British, almost all of these ethnic groups have struggled against the Burmese government for self-determination.

7/13/1905	Gandhiji opposes Bengal Partition, supports boycott of British goods. During Gokhale Lajpat Rai's deputation to Britain, he appeals to Colonial statesmen to treat India ""an integral part of the Empire"" with consideration. Sanjeevan, weekly from Calcutta, also raised the motto to boycott British Goods.
12/19/1952	Nehru announces the Government's decision for establishing an Andhra State, constituting Telugu speaking areas of the State of Madras, excluding the city.
5/27/2000	In a mini cabinet reshuffle, Nitish Kumar gets back his Agriculture portfolio, while Dilip Ray resigns as Minister of State for Steel.
8/14/1954	'State Carrom Association' was established in Mumbai.
3/21/1996	PSLV-D3 launched successfully.
10/2/1971	Gandhi Sadan was handed over to the nation.
10/2/1955	Nehru inaugurated an Integral Coach factory at Perambur.
7/13/1988	Second developmental launch of ASLV. Stretched Rohini Satellite Series (SROSS-2). This carried remote sensing payload of German space agency in addition to Gamma Ray astronomy payload. Could not be placed in orbit.
2/1/1922	Gandhiji gives notice to the Viceroy Lord Reading during Bardoli movement to inform him that he was intensifying his action and non-cooperation was to be escalated to Civil Disobedience.
