Gandhiji commences ""fast unto death"" at Rajkot to protest state's autocratic rule at Bombay and to secure ruler's adherence of promise given towards reform administration, and ends it on March 7 on Viceroy's intervention.

4/5/1950Spurred by recent clashes in East and West Bengal between Muslims and Hindus, Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and his Pakistani couterpart Ali Khan today reached agreement on a ""Bill of Rights for Minorities"". This bill included a provision for ""drumhead justice,"" or summary justice to persons convicted of violating minority rights.
4/2/1902Gulam Ali Khan Ustad Bade was born.
1/1/1914Dhirendra Nath Mukherji, social worker, was born at Bankura, West Bengal.
11/17/1932The Third Round Table Conference began in London. It was not attended by the Congress as the real Indian participation in the making of the constitution was negligible. Since Gandhi was in prison because of his civil disobedience movement he could not attend it either. This conference ended on 24th November 1932 without achieving anything.
7/22/1997Govt. issues notification saying that Prasar Bharati Act, 1990 would come into force from Sept. 15.
