For the first time, officials of the Indian government confirmed reports of widespread resistance to the Chinese occupying forces in Tibet. Open warfare erupted in the capital city of Lhasa.

She became the first woman scientist in the country to head not only ICMR but any Research agency in independent India.

10/30/1996Former PM Narasimha Rao appears before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at the Vigyan Bhawan Annexe, New Delhi, as an accused in the St. Kitts forgery case.
6/9/1964Lal Bahadur Shastri became the second Prime Minister of India when the country was shocked of Jawaharlal Nehru's death and Indo-China war. Shastri gave the quotation ""Jai Jawan Jai Kisan"" which motivated the war-affected Indians to boost their morale. He remained in this office till he died on January 11, 1966 at Taskent. In his cabinet, Indira Gandhi served as Minister of Information and Broadcasting.
