5/4/1783	Tipu Sultan was enthroned as the ruler of Mysore after the death of Haider Ali in a simple ceremony at Bednur. He continued the Second Mysore War against the English. He defeated many EnglishGenerals like Brithwhite & Col. Bailey. Tipu Sultan signed the treaty at Mangalore on 11th March 1784 A.D. which was known as the Mangalore treaty.

6/28/1972	Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis died. He was the first founder of Indian statistical Institute to receive world recognition. In 1958, he started his national sample surveys. A Sample survey means assessing a situation by studying a part of it which would represent the whole, some of his proposals were included in the second five year paln. His original work made him elected as fellow of the Royal society in 1945.

6/23/1985	Air India Jumbo Jet Boeing 747 'Kanishka' which was travelling to Mumbai from Montreal crashed into the Atlantic Ocean after explosion near Ireland. 329 people on board died.
6/7/1984	Indian Army troops, sent to Punjab to quell Sikh violence, stormed the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the holiest of Sikh shrines. More than 400 persons were reported killed in the assault at the shrine, including Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
8/7/1986	Lok Sabha passes Constitution 53rd Amendment bill conferring statehood on Mizoram.
12/3/1992	Indian, UN Operations in Mozambique begins (ONUMOZ - Dec 92 to Oct 94)
